No. 2 BYU takes its unbeaten record on the road
The Cougars are 6-0 and No. 2 in the AP poll — now comes a road test at a UCF team that has not lost at home.
BYU arrives in Orlando as the highest-ranked team in this week's statewide slate. The Cougars are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12, ranked No. 2 in the AP Top 25 and No. 3 in the AFCA Coaches Poll, both published Oct. 18 after the 28-24 home win over Notre Dame. That win was decided late: Bear Bachmeier threw the go-ahead 6-yard touchdown pass to Walker Lyons with 1:47 left, after running for two touchdowns and catching a 15-yard touchdown earlier in the game.
The Oct. 24 opponent is UCF at Acrisure Bounce House, with kickoff at 1:30 p.m. MT on FOX. The Knights are 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12, and their record splits frame the assignment: UCF is 3-0 at home and 0-3 on the road this season, while BYU is 2-0 in road games. BYU is also UCF's Homecoming opponent, which adds a full-house setting to a conference game between teams heading in different directions in the standings.
The player to watch is Bachmeier. Against Notre Dame he finished 23-of-36 passing for 224 yards, carried 13 times for 45 yards and two scores, and caught the 15-yard touchdown pass. Per BYU Athletics, he is the first FBS player in the past 30 years with a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown and a receiving touchdown against an AP Top-5 team in the same game, and the first Cougar to do all three in any game since Steve Young in the 1983 Holiday Bowl.
